The call for accountability

Family court.
Real responsibility.

We call for Patrick Rawnsley’s removal as a Thurston County family court commissioner and a transparent review of his courtroom conduct.

Families deserve impartial decision-making, respectful hearings, and careful attention to the records before the court. Judicial authority carries a responsibility to listen and to treat people with dignity.

The Washington Courts directory lists Patrick Rawnsley as a commissioner at Thurston County Family and Juvenile Court. This is an independent advocacy initiative, unaffiliated with the court.

Our concerns

What we are
calling attention to.

We are raising concerns and expressing our position, not reporting official findings. Supporting incident records have not yet been published here.

Alleged abuse of power

We are concerned about the use of the commissioner’s authority. We want specific conduct reviewed against the responsibilities of judicial office.

Rude or condescending treatment

We object to treatment we view as rude, condescending, or dismissive. We want courtroom words and actions examined through recordings, transcripts, and firsthand accounts.

Conduct unbecoming of a court commissioner

We question whether Commissioner Rawnsley’s demeanor and actions meet the standard families deserve from the person presiding over their hearings.

Oath, duties & ethical standards

The responsibilities
behind the title.

We expect a commissioner to serve fairly, impartially, and to the best of their ability.

These are our expectations, alongside the Washington ethical standards linked below. This is not a quotation from Commissioner Rawnsley’s signed oath or a finding that he violated these rules.

Review court files and relevant materials

We expect careful review of court files, documents, legal authorities, and relevant materials before and after hearings. Rule 2.5’s commentary emphasizes preparation and thoroughness.

Act fairly and impartially

Rule 2.2 addresses fairness and impartiality; Rule 2.6 addresses the opportunity to be heard. These are central to what we expect from family court.
